Our Mission to Student Education
Duke University Hospital, founded in 1936, uses its extensive resources to prepare pharmacy students for their professional careers through three comprehensive internship programs: the Hospital Pharmacy Internship, the Clinical Pharmacy Internship, and the Pharmacy Leadership Internship. Each program is designed to immerse students in diverse areas of pharmacy, providing them with a broad spectrum of experiences that foster both professional and personal growth.
The Hospital Pharmacy Internship offers students hands-on experience in various aspects of hospital pharmacy practice, ensuring they gain a solid foundation in medication management, patient safety, and operational efficiencies within a hospital setting. The Clinical Pharmacy Internship focuses on direct patient care, allowing students to work alongside clinical pharmacists in different specialties, enhancing their clinical skills and understanding of disease management and therapeutic interventions. The Pharmacy Leadership Internship prepares students for future leadership roles by exposing them to the administrative and strategic aspects of pharmacy practice, including policy development, healthcare management, and leadership strategies.
Under the guidance of dedicated pharmacy leaders, students in these programs benefit from a supportive environment that emphasizes exceptional patient care, professional mentorship, and community service. This robust educational framework not only enhances the relationships established with future pharmacists but also ensures that they are well-equipped to meet the challenges of the profession with competence and confidence. Duke University Hospital's commitment to its patients, student learners, and the community reflects its role as a leader in pharmacy education and patient care.
