Nickalus is originally from Lexington, North Carolina. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from High Point University. His practice interests include emergency medicine and internal medicine. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Smith serves on the Internal and Specialty Medicine Formulary Evaluation Team and is completing the Teaching and Precepting Certificate Program. His research will assess the use of colchicine monotherapy compared to the standard of care in the treatment of acute pericarditis. Upon completion of PGY1 pharmacy residency, he plans to pursue a PGY2 in one of his interest areas. In the future, he hopes to obtain board certification, precept pharmacy students, and practice within a large academic medical center. Outside of pharmacy, he enjoys watching movies, spending time with friends, and traveling.
