Sadiyya Rahaman
Sadiyya S. Rahaman is a proud first-generation college student. She was born in Georgetown, Guyana, and migrated to New York City at a young age. She earned her Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts through a dual enrollment program at the age of 17. She was later awarded the Posse Foundation’s Full-Tuition Leadership Scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology. Upon graduation, Sadiyya began working with the Wisconsin State Department of Health Services (DHS) as a Disease Intervention Specialist, where she became involved in patient care and interprofessional collaboration with healthcare providers. This experience inspired her decision to further her education and pursue her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Within her pharmacy community, Sadiyya remains a leader among her peers, serving as her Class Representative. She is also an active member of the Wisconsin Student Pharmacy Society, volunteering at local vaccination clinics, supporting reproductive health education initiatives, and providing fall risk assessments. Additionally, Sadiyya enjoys educating others about pharmacy practices and healthcare systems across different countries to help promote culturally informed patient care alongside her peers in SNPhA. She was also granted the opportunity to participate in a Service-Learning Trip to Belize, where she helped run a pop-up pharmacy and clinic alongside two other student pharmacists and several physician assistant students.
Beyond the demanding coursework of the PharmD curriculum and her extracurricular commitments, Sadiyya continues to work with the Wisconsin State DHS as a senior public health educator, collaborating closely with Wisconsin Department of Corrections providers and overseeing treatment for reportable communicable diseases per CDC guidelines. She gives back to her Posse community as the NY’14 and NY’16 cohort’s Mentor within UW–Madison Posse Program. In this role, she helps her students navigate the transition to life at the UW, access the support and resources they need, and guide her students towards academic and professional success.
Outside of work and academics, Sadiyya makes time to pursue her pottery and art projects, to travel, and explore the outdoors. She enjoys staying active, whether that is snowboarding in the winter, attending a yoga or Pilates class, or lifting weights in the gym.
Through her experiences with the Duke Hospital Pharmacy Leadership Internship, Sadiyya is excited to learn directly from Clinical and Patient Care Service Leadership Team, engage in meaningful health-system projects, and gain insight into the business and financial aspects of hospital pharmacy, which all aligns with her long-term goal of being a leader in pharmacy.
